“Attracting and Engaging Audiences in Roma Cultural Events and Folklore Rituals – Traveling Educational Seminar”
1. Description of Activities
The traveling educational seminars were organized on the basis of the four created educational video films, for each of the target territories. The video film presents the newly created opportunities for filming videos with the cameras of mobile devices – by the participants in local Roma celebrations, customs, rituals and festivals.
Each of the films is visualized on the phones and tablets of the local residents of the target settlements, and can also be broadcast on a “large screen” during the events organized by the local community centers, traditional holidays of the respective settlement. The broadcasts can be organized in local cultural centers, community center halls or in suitable outdoor locations – using mobile screens and projectors.
Representatives of the Roma communities from the target territories acquired skills and knowledge in working with electronic tools and mobile techniques for cultural animation, which function on their phones and tablets.
Both participants and spectators at the celebrations and rituals will acquire abilities, thanks to which they will be able to enrich their expression or reception – with short video reports; Live Video and Selfie format. Through the training on working with the mobile application, one of the main goals of the activity will be achieved – not just “attracting” new audiences, but “involving” the spectators and the online audience of the organized cultural events directly in the organized folklore customs, festivals, rituals and celebrations.
Those who are on the spot of the event /audience, participants, directors, technicians; creators, performers/ will be able to film and share in a common network video reports, artistic reflections, creative inspirations, inventions – building on the specific celebrations with the rich palette of individual perceptions and influences in the moment of cultural creation and consumption.
The participants in the educational events received information on how to download the mobile application and install it on their phones and tablets. They were introduced to how to make video clips, shoot and comment on what they saw using the accessible and intuitive interface, thus expressing their personal position on the cultural event – in accordance with their role and participation in it. The study of this innovative technique for digital cultural animation brings Roma communities and Roma culture closer to the new dimensions in the development of artistic and creative processes – where everyone actively participates as “co-creators”. This is a modern trend for blurring the boundaries between professionals and amateurs in the general cultural process.
In addition to the knowledge of direct involvement in the “live” cultural events, the local residents who have installed the mobile application will start to receive notifications about video clips published by other participants; to create their own channels with their own production, as well as to create and playlists with favorite video clips selected from the publications of other participants.
2. Description of the Educational Seminars Held in the Target Territories
2.1. Educational Seminar in Yagodevo Village
The seminar was held on April 18, 2024, in the building of the “Iskra-1897” Community Center.

The seminar was held on April 19, 2024, in the building of the “Probudba-1927” Community Center.
